“Miss Aligned” LaKeshia T. Williams (reading)

Dear Black woman,

I love you.

I love you because you simply are.

Please normalize acknowledging, honoring, and cherishing your worth for simply being. Your worth will never be dependent upon what you accomplish nor the level of resiliency you exude in the face of adversity. You are not a disposable martyr for any cause.

You are human.

A human being.

You cry; you bleed; you feel; unapologetically embrace your humanity. Know that your humanity is not, nor will it ever be, a topic or debate up for discussion or consideration.

In a world that negligently depicts your being as strong, impenetrable, and independent, vow to reject those preconceived notions. Let your rebuttal spew with love, self-love. Do not bear a heart crystalized with fear and hatred.

Be love, love portrayed in various forms and capacities.

UNABASHEDLY:

Stand in your authenticity.

Honor your stillness, your mindfulness.

Understand you do not have all the answers.

Accept nurturing and support from your loved ones.

Value the vitality and magnitude of your vulnerability.

Be willing to say ‘no’ in the name of self-preservation.

Learn who you are as an individual; energetically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

May you never consciously nor subconsciously allow this world’s grandeur, yet simultaneously bigoted and misogynistic view of your existence gaslight and corner you into spaces of questioning and devaluing your body, self-worth, and God-given purpose.

May you stand firmly, assertively, and proudly in your innate duality of existence:
